The wider end of this unique mirrorless zoom lens is particularly useful for side-line sports, wildlife and other subjects that move closer as you are shooting, allowing you to continue photographing without changing lenses. The precise arrangement of special lens elements effectively delivers uncompromising high image quality throughout the entire 50-400mm zoom range. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is incredibly compact with a length of just 183.4mm (7.2in) and light weight of 1,155g (40.7oz)1 in spite of high resolution and its 8x ultra telephoto zoom range. Additionally, it is comfortable to carry all day because it is lighter and more compact than a conventional 100-400mm class zoom. For comfortable use in a variety of situations, the new 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is equipped with TAMRON’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism and proprietary image stabilization mechanism VC (Vibration Compensation). These features combine with others make it possible to capture sharp images, and provide users comfortable shooting opportunities even when shooting wild birds and fast-moving sports action. Additionally, you can enjoy the world of half-macro photography with excellent close-up shooting capabilities. The MOD (Minimum Object Distance) is a scant 0.25m (9.8in) at the 50mm end, and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2. Furthermore, you can customize certain functions and update the firmware via the Connector Port by using the dedicated TAMRON Lens UtilityTM. For this zoom lens, TAMRON Lens Utility offers a “Focus Limiter” function. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC was developed in pursuit of high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The optical construction features 24 elements in 18 groups. Special lens elements, including XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), LD (Low Dispersion), GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) and Hybrid Aspherical lens elements are effectively arranged and control aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC also features BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating that minimizes ghosting and flare and expresses the minute details of subjects even under backlit conditions. Enjoy clear and sharp resolution to the edges of the frame, plus the soft and beautiful bokeh effects of the type that only an ultra-telephoto can create.

In spite of covering focal lengths from 50 to 400mm, this lens is both smaller and lighter than the conventional 100-400mm lens. The lens is equipped with TAMRON's proprietary VC mechanism, and effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce image quality loss when shooting handheld in low-light conditions or at slower shutter speeds. Furthermore, using AI technologies, the lens chooses the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography at focal lengths of 100mm or less.
The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is capable of extremely high performance when shooting close-ups, particularly for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens. You can enjoy half-macro shooting with an MOD of 0.25m (9.8in) at 50mm, and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 in focal length from 50mm to 70mm. Moreover, at the 400mm telephoto end, the MOD is 1.5m (59.1in), providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 for dynamic shots. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for computers and Android™ 2 OS) that was developed in-house by TAMRON3. This software allows various lens and camera settings to be assigned to the Focus Set Button located on the lens. Also, the lenses' firmware4 can be updated to the latest version. In addition, when using the mobile version, functions unique to the mobile version can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Users may customize functions5 for various still photography and videography shooting styles, thereby providing a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.
Additionally, with the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC you can select the “Focus Limiter” function that allows you to limit the focus search range of the AF. This function shortens the time taken to refocus when a subject slips out of focus and prevents focusing on obstacles in front of a subject.

The Arca Swiss compatible tripod mount with quick shoe (Model A035TM, sold separately) allows you to shift quickly from handheld shooting to a tripod. The tripod mount can be easily attached and detached, allowing you to choose the best shooting method for each scene.
Our engineers examined the structure and key parts right down to the fine details, resulting in an enhanced design that updates both operability and the ergonomic considerations. The surface of the lens exterior is shiny and glossy black. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints. The rubber on the ring is also updated to have better grip performance with deeper grooves.
